Interior Colour Palette Planner
Pick a wall hex and a floor undertone to see suggested accent and trim colours.
Plan an interior colour palette
Interior palettes often start with the wall colour, then respond to whether wood floors and furniture lean warm (oak, cherry) or cool (ash, grey-washed). Pick a wall HEX and an undertone: the tool shifts hue in HSL toward warm or cool for an accent, and lightens or darkens for a trim suggestion you can test as skirting or architrave. These are sketch hexes — always sample paint under the room’s daylight and lamps. Expand ramps with monochromatic palette and check contrast for coloured walls with contrast checker.
Worked example
Wall #D4C4A8 with warm undertone → accent hue nudged warmer and darker; trim pushed lighter or darker for contrast.
Limits and assumptions
Simple HSL shifts. Does not read photos of floors or guarantee brand-matched paint SKUs.
Frequently asked questions
What is an undertone?
A subtle warm (yellow/red) or cool (blue/green) bias in wood or flooring that affects which accents feel harmonious.
What are HEX colours?
HEX codes like #D4C4A8 are hexadecimal RGB values used in design tools and CSS.
Should trim be white?
Not always — the suggestion contrasts lightness with the wall; you can still pick a pure white after testing.
Can I use this for exterior?
The maths works, but exterior light and weathering differ — sample on site.
