Estimate Shopify seller profit
Shopify sellers combine product cost with payment processing, any per-order fixed fee, shipping they choose to absorb, and a slice of app or subscription cost allocated per order. Enter those figures from your current plan and payment provider — this page does not scrape Shopify’s live fee tables, so the maths stays under your control when rates change. Profit per order = price − cost − percentage fee − fixed fee − absorbed shipping − apps/other. Compare channel economics with the Etsy profit and Amazon profit calculators using the same product cost for a fair side-by-side. Not affiliated with Shopify.
Worked example
£42 price, £14 cost, 2.9% + £0.30 card fees, £3.50 shipping absorbed and £0.80 apps → fees+ship ≈ £5.82; profit ≈ £22.18 before tax.
Limits and assumptions
Plan subscription is not annualised unless you put a per-order share in apps/other. VAT, returns and FX are not modelled unless you include them.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I find my card fee %?
From your Shopify Payments or third-party gateway settings / statements for your region and card type.
Should free shipping go in this tool?
Yes — put the carrier cost you still pay into “shipping you absorb”.
How do I include the monthly Shopify plan?
Divide monthly plan (and apps) by expected orders and enter that as apps/other per order.
Is this tax advice?
No — contribution estimate only. Speak to an accountant for VAT (value-added tax) and taxable profit.
