Cold brew ratios
Cold brew concentrate is coffee dosed by weight into water at a brew ratio, steeped cold for many hours, then diluted to drink. Water (grams or ml) ≈ coffee × ratio — concentrate commonly sits around 1:5 to 1:8. After steeping and filtering, dilute with water or milk (often about 1:1 concentrate to diluent) and portion into your cup size for an approximate serving count. Grind size and steep time strongly affect strength; this page scales mass only. For hot brew ratios see the coffee ratio calculator.
Worked example
100 g coffee at a 1:7 ratio needs 700 g/ml water. At a 1:1 serve dilute and 250 ml cups → about 1,400 ml drink ≈ 5.6 servings.
Limits and assumptions
Ratio and dilution guide only. Steep time, grind and bean solubility are not modelled. ml ≈ g for water.
Frequently asked questions
What does 1:7 mean?
One part coffee to seven parts water by weight — 100 g coffee with 700 g water.
Concentrate or ready-to-drink?
This tool assumes you brew a concentrate then dilute. For ready-to-drink, use a milder ratio and set dilute to 0.
How long should I steep?
Often 12–24 hours in the fridge. Taste and adjust — time is outside the calculator.
Can I scale to a big batch?
Yes — keep the same ratio and multiply coffee and water together.
