Gardening
Garden Area Calculator
Enter length and width — or add a second bed — to get total area.
How big is my garden?
Turf, seed, weed membrane and many garden treatments are priced by area, so getting length × width right comes before product maths. Enter one rectangle for a simple lawn, or use the optional second length and width when you have another bed or a split L-shape. Irregular plots work best when you break them into rectangles and sum — or use an average width on a tapering strip. The result is plan area only; steep slopes have a slightly larger surface than the map footprint. Continue into materials with the lawn seed calculator or depth fills via the topsoil calculator.
Worked example
A 12 × 6 m lawn is 72 m². Adding an optional 3 × 2 m bed brings the combined total to 78 m².
Limits and assumptions
Rectangle model only. Curves, circles and triangles need approximation or a split into simpler shapes.
Frequently asked questions
Should paths be included?
Include them only if you are treating, seeding or covering those surfaces with the same product.
How do I do an L-shaped garden?
Split into two rectangles, enter both pairs of sides, and read the combined total.
Does slope increase the area I should buy?
Surface area on a slope is a little larger than plan area. For steep banks, measure along the face or add a small contingency.
Can I work in acres?
Convert from square metres if needed (1 acre ≈ 4,047 m²), or keep everything in m² for product coverage charts.
