Ignores grout joints. Measure a tile including the joint if you need extra accuracy. Opening area is optional on each wall (doors, windows, untiled stretches).

How many tiles should I buy?

Add waste for cuts and breakages — about 10% for a simple grid, more for diagonals and patterned layouts. Use Floor mode for a single rectangle, or Walls mode to enter each elevation’s height and width so the tool sums the area for you. Box quantities differ by range, so enter the tiles per box from the carton. Keep spares if the shade may be discontinued. Related: flooring calculator, tile adhesive and grout. Estimate only — not a tiler’s survey or waterproofing specification. Large-format tiles often need stronger boards and different adhesive coverage. Dry-lay complex patterns before you commit the waste percentage, and order from one dye lot when you can.

Worked example

Floor 3.2 × 2.4 m = 7.68 m². With 10% waste → 8.45 m². Tiles 0.3 × 0.3 m (0.09 m²) → about 94 tiles; boxes of 10 → 10 boxes. Walls mode: three walls 2.4×3, 2.4×2.5 and 2.4×1.8 m sum to 17.52 m² before waste.

Limits and assumptions

Assumes flat rectangles. In Walls mode, openings are deducted per wall and capped at that wall’s area. Curved walls and mosaics need more waste. Does not specify adhesive or waterproofing.

Frequently asked questions

Floor or Walls mode?

Floor is one length × width. Walls lets you add each elevation (up to eight), optionally deduct openings, and totals the net area automatically.

How much extra should I buy?

Ten per cent is a common grid starting point; complex patterns and large-format tiles often need 15%+.

Are doors and windows deducted?

In Walls mode, enter each opening’s area on that wall (typical door ~1.5–2 m²). Openings cannot exceed that wall’s gross area. Floor mode has no opening deduction.

Should I keep spares after the job?

Yes if the shade may be discontinued — a few tiles save future patchwork mismatches.
