Compare marketplace fees

Amazon, eBay, Etsy and Shopify apps all take a cut differently. This page does not store live fee tables — paste current rates from your seller dashboard so the maths ages better than a static blog chart. Shipping and ads are separate unless you fold them into the fixed fee. Percentage plus per-order charges are common; enter both when they apply. After fees, check unit profit with product profit or channel pages such as Amazon profit, eBay profit and Etsy profit. Compare two marketplaces with the same selling price and cost to see which net proceeds win. Estimates only — fee schedules change. Subscription seller plans can lower percentage fees while adding a monthly fixed cost — model both at your true order volume. Category holidays and promotional fee reductions expire; diary the end date. When a platform introduces a new fulfilment programme, rebuild the fee stack from the preview rather than editing last year’s spreadsheet.

Worked example

Sell at £50 with a 12% referral fee (£6) and a £0.30 fixed order fee. Net before product cost = £43.70. On a £100 item with the same structure, fees are £12.30 — the fixed fee matters less at higher tickets. If a rival marketplace is 10% with a £1 fixed fee, run both at your average order value before migrating listings.

Limits and assumptions

Category exceptions, subscription plans and promotional fee holidays are not automatic. Payment processing may be bundled or separate by platform. Not contractual fee advice.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn’t this tool list Amazon’s current fees?

Rates change by category and programme. Entering your live preview stays accurate longer than a static table.

Should percentage and fixed fees both be entered?

Yes when both apply — many platforms combine a percentage take with per-order charges.

How do I compare two marketplaces?

Run the same selling price and cost through each fee set, then compare net proceeds.

Where do advertising fees go?

Keep ads separate unless you want a fully loaded fee stack — then add them as an extra percentage or fixed cost.

Do refunds reverse fees?

Platforms differ. Check whether referral fees are returned on refunds before you model return-heavy categories.
