Price Decrease Calculator
Enter the original price and discount percent to see the sale price.
What is the price after a discount?
A single percentage markdown is new price = original × (1 − discount%). The tool also shows how much you save and what fraction of the original price you still pay. Use it for clearances, staff discounts and “20% off” banners where only one cut applies — handy for checking till receipts against a advertised percentage. Stacked promotions (percent then percent, or percent then fixed amount) need different maths — use the discount stacking calculator for those. The reverse direction — marking a price up — is covered by price increase.
Worked example
£89 at 20% off → £89 × 0.80 = £71.20. You save £17.80 and pay 80% of the original.
Limits and assumptions
One percentage only. Does not apply coupons after tax, BOGO offers or capped “up to £X off” rules.
Frequently asked questions
Is 20% off the same as paying 80%?
Yes for a single percentage cut on the listed price.
What if VAT is included?
Enter the price as shown on the ticket; the percentage applies to that figure unless your till rules differ.
Can I enter a fixed £ off?
Not here — this tool is percentage-only. Model a fixed cut by computing the equivalent percent first, or use stacking tools if needed.
Why not use discount stacking?
Use stacking when two or more discounts apply in sequence; this page is for one clean markdown.
